Political Despair

With Lady Macbeth fresh off her "win" in Florida (a classic Clintonian "obey the letter while betraying the spirit" maneuver), and as earnestly campaigning to have their disqualified delegates seated for her as she was campaigning to keep casino's union workers out of the primary in Nevada and CA with its huge delegate count leaning towards her, I fear she'll get the nod. Especially because baby-boomers don't trust anyone under 50 (irony, anyone?) and there're so many of them.

If she gets the nod and if McCain gets the nod (looking more and more likely), then we're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, with six of one versus a half-dozen of the other. If we elect McCain, it'll be another season of Republicans falling into lock-step with a liberal white-house. If we elect Lady Macbeth, the continual stream of petty outrages emanating from the white-house will allow '94 all over again and the Republicans will never get their coalition back... Urg. Normally I don't vote for someone, but at least I can pick someone to vote AGAINST.

Do the calculus, people -- vote for Othello!

Modern Financial Planning

In our new age of deficits as far as the eye can see and foreclosures everywhere, there's finally some financial advice we can trust.

XKCD comes out swinging for Obama

I'm already a supporter of Obama, but this article gives a different, very good reason: "sunshine"-orientation.

Oh, and, btw, those comp-sci people who like LOLcats will definitely approve of today's bad punmanship:

Cloverfield semi-review

Maddie and I saw Cloverfield tonight. Great characters, great monsters, but an abject failure of storytelling. After both this and Blair Witch, I'm convinced that first-person limited belongs in print, not on the screen. Add to the fact that although I inferred a positive moral out of the movie ("earn the privilege of dying well"), the movie's contents were pretty nihilistic, and I'm just bloody sick of Gen-X nihilism.

Overall C+ since the baseline concept was so good; definitely a matinee at best, and I can't imagine owning the DVD.

We are arrived

Radio silence will continue to exist for a while until the home office is set up and the new routine is established (this morning's commute: 1 hour 25 minutes, starting at 6:30am so traffic would be light).

But we're here, halfway established, and should approach some state of normalcy as soon as "normal" is defined. :o)
