I've shrunk!

I had an appointment with the allergist, and as part of the checking-in procedure I was weighed & measured. I'm fat, which's not news to anyone, but I'm 5'11.25" ! Holy crap! I used to be 6'0" -- that's a lot of less height.

Yours lemurly is creeped out.

Next time, stand up straight..

I was; that's what creeped me out. I've been having problems with my back, which could have something to do with it, but 3/4"?!

I've always skirted the 5-11 and 6' line.
You need to stand up straight, and in order to do that, start doing those spinal stretches... I bet you're still seriously compressed.

That, or handstands, or something that forces your spine to flex, like basic rolling. I'm sure you and Cupcake can think of something...

eww, that was poorly written, wasn't it... but yes, back issues could easily steal 3/4".

Yes, your spine is compressed -- all of those hours, hunched over a screen, cranking out code. I know that your non-work time is limited (what with your hellish commute), but perhaps you can do passive back stretching while hanging out with your beautiful Cupcake. Ideally, you'd want one of those ceiling/door lintel things where you'd hang upside-down by your feet, but that'll just give Cupcake too many ideas. :-)

Or alink to muscle control exercises... an easy one to start loosening up the spine is simply to rock back and forth like you're on a galloping horse while you work or do a trivial-task-break. Eventually your spine starts changing from ( to ) and back to ( and then to ), all of which loosens it up nice and gently.

I figured it out: my back has taken to remaining slightly arched forwards -- if I try to straighten it or slouch, it doesn't like it at all.

Can Maddie walk on it, if you have pillows?
I could help you on this, if I had 1500-mile-long arms...
