Makes me so sad - Prairie Home was always such a childhood comfort thing for me. I remember being in New York in November over Thanksgiving week-end (my first semester in college and my first holiday away from home) and being so homesick I felt ill. NPR ran three Prairie Home Companions in a row that day and it helped get me and my rattled, homesick nerves through a lonely day. But it really isn't the same - ever since Garrison Keiller started farming out the writing, it's slid downhill. sigh...I guess that's how it goes. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on some CD's of the earlier episodes though, for old times sake :-) -Maddie
Well, we all know that Raw Bits was a big loss, but still, the show had been motoring along ok. But now it's obvious that even it's previously declined quality just isn't there any more. Between the racism coming in to play a few weeks ago, the ketchup commercials even failing to parody themselves, Guy Noir turning into a snooze-fest and Dusty & Lefty an even greater snooze-fest, only Ruth Harrison Reference Librarian had hope, and that's a one-trick pony that's done the same trick three times now.
Sigh. And we'll never know who's buried under the statue of the Unknown Norweigian....
I think you're right Russ - it did start start in 1994 or there abouts but...in 1994 I was a junior in high school and still quite a youngin' :-) Hee! James didn't rob the cradle but....

I agree. Except I think it started in about 1994...
Though not a listener of the show, I am sorry for your loss. :-)
