Solar Furnace Barbecue Challenge

Public Challenge:

Russ has a solar-furnace design with lots of little mirrors. I have a cooker design involving a sheet of copper. This summer, may the best Mitchell win!

Okay, I request to be an impartial judge. I will even donate some deer meat for a neutral cooking entry.

Approved! To be fair, everything but the cookers should probably be identical....

Including the inventors... Hee! Couldn't resist :)

Maddie, I award you a full point for shapely brainyness.

Very clever Maddie!!

Question: What will be your control group, or is this strictly a "may the better cooker win"? If the latter is the case, what is are your judging points so that the decision is not subjective?

Oh, why thank you Superbiff and Coffeespaz :-)

Well, he hasn't accepted the challenge yet, so....

I'd envision a neutral 3rd party doing the cooking with the meat-stock the same, etc.

But he has to accept first.

I am sure he'll accept. ;-)

This sounds like a lot of fun, keep us posted!

YOu don't want me to cook, so just put me down for the tasting test.

Wait a minute. You're telling me that you want a contest between my heated area on a grill, and your heated area on a grill? Both of them conducting heat, via a grill... to be cooked by some identical individual?

I'm failing to see the contest. That's like playing Texas Hold'Em with the exact same hand... only my two is a two of clubs, and your two is a two of hearts...

A better contest would be to test the applicability of the grill.

For instance, you bend a copper sheet, and get a hot line. Groovy.

Mine, otoh, requires more setup, and in theory can roast the flesh off the cook while she's putting them on the grill....

Hey, it's a power-source to heat the cooking surface(s), right? You don't think that'd be a fun way to contrast photozappers?

Although, zapping the flesh off the cook might be too unsafe; if you can do that, that strongly implies the ability to blind him or her.

My version is said to take steel to cherry hot well inside of a minute... that means that even the "safety version" is gonna get HOT.
