Things that Suck: Reliant Energy

I've never lived anywhere before where I thought about getting a "No Solicitors" sign before, but here in Irving there's some knucklehead trying to sell you something every week or so, and if you're a work-from-home type, it's kinda vexing. Not a lot vexing, just the "please don't waste my time" vexing.

So some idiot wearing a white Reliant Energy polo shirt and two different kinds of officious looking ID cards comes up to my door, introduces himself, shakes hands and says....

(drumroll, please)
I'm here in the area because the energy market has been deregulated; do you know what that means?
Needless to say, I wasn't interested in the rest of his spiel. Never take an offer from a company (Reliant Energy, in this case) that believes its customers are stupid.

Welcome to suburbia :)

Now that you're new to the area your personal information just got farmed out to all the mailing lists for door-to-door types. Eventually they'll wise up and it will get too damn hot for them to stop by. Our traffic dropped off after the 1st year in the home - they realized that we weren't worth the effort.

Either that or you really do need to get that American Mastiff you showed me back in January.

A sign that says "PISS OFF" would work just as well.

Yeah, we had the guy last night too. Russ had to shut the door in his face as he just kept pushing after he told him we're not interested, and he does NOT like doing that. The couple who lived in the house next door before J+R used to have a 'No Solicitors' sign. I do not want to put one up because of the kids who are selling stuff for school and the girl scout cookies, obviously...:-), but boy, it was tempting last night...

Lemon coolers and samoas for me, but thin mints will do in a pinch...:-)

Oooooo...I had forgotten about the lemon coolers. Those are good.

I'd put a no solicitors sign up. you work from home, ferpetessake.
and make sure your neighbors buy extra girl scout cookies for you.

Ugh, that's just plain annoying! Thank goodness the only disturbances we have (at least for the moment) are the carpenters banging in the unit beside us as they frantically try to finish their work.

I vote for the No Soliciting sign too. Maybe you could put it up only during "business hours" since you are working from home?

No, my business hours are California hours; it'd have to just stay up. One is en-route already.

Excellent; you guys really need that. And if you let me know which GS cookie you two like, I can always get a box or two for you...:-)
