Recent studies showing that a "few extra pounds" do not contribute to increased mortality were not talking about obesity. If this trend continues, the Social Security and Medicare crises will fix themselves.

This is one of the things that illustrates why, faults and all, our medical system is still the best in the world.. Sure people will talk about how Japan and Luxembourg and similar countries have higher life expectancies by a few years..
But the key is, we're seeing increasing life expectancies and still in the top 5-10 in that regard even as a QUARTER OF THE FUCKING POPULATION IS **OBESE**?!?!
You know what happens to obese people in most countries? They keel over and die from heart failure.. Here they find a way to survive and get back to cheeseburgers and American Idol
Yes, and we pay through the nose for it, but it works. Thank the pharmaceutical companies that lefties hate so much. All of that "making profits on the backs of medical patients" seems to be working very well.
